COVID-19 pandemic or not, the contest between Williams and his opponent, Heath Hansen of Audubon, was a very civilized and congenial one.
Williams points to one race that did not follow in that same tenor.
At this point, Williams and Breda Democrat, C.J. Petersen, will be two candidates on the November ballot. And as COVID-19 restrictions continue to be lifted, Williams says his campaign will change going forward.
He says he will be back on the campaign trail soon, but he does have to take a quick break and refocus on business for a bit. And when it comes to the resetting and starting the campaign over, Williams says his message is going to be one that keys in on conservative issues and those that are of highest importance to the tax payers. This includes the financial difficulties the state will likely face from the COVID-19 crisis. Now the discussions need to take place on how to designate limited funds to the projects and initiatives Iowans need. And Williams wants the voters to know he is very grateful for all of the support Tuesday night and throughout the Primary campaign.
The unofficial results in the race were 3,081 votes for Williams and 1,964 for Hansen. Each individual board of supervisors in the five counties comprising Iowa’s 6th Senate District will need to canvas the election before those votes will become official.
