Sole Occupant Escapes Camper Fire With Only Minor Injuries

The occupant of a camper was able to escape with only minor injuries early Wednesday morning after awaking to a fire. The Jefferson Police Department reports an officer, a deputy and the Jefferson Fire Department all responded to the call at approximately 12:02 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Elm Street. A camper was parked behind a business at that location with one person sleeping inside. The man told authorities he awoke to the sound of a loud pop and smoke filling the camper. Once he got out, the man used a fork lift to push the camper away from the building. The camper was a total loss and the business did receive some damage from the extreme heat of the blaze. The cause of the fire is as of yet undetermined.
