Carroll County Public Health announced today (Friday) they have identified the first coronavirus-related death of a county resident. The individual was in the 81 and older age category, and no other information regarding the patient will be released due to privacy concerns. Public Health Director, Nicole Schwering, says “We wish to extend our sympathy to this individual’s family. Carroll County Public Health and all of our key partners through the county and state continue to work to limit the spread and impact of this virus in our communities.” As of Friday, health officials have confirmed 15 COVID-19 cases in the county, 10 of which are recovered. Over 520 tests have been administered, with 471 negative and 50 still pending. Elsewhere in the listening area, Calhoun County stands at nine confirmed cases, Audubon with 13, Greene at 15, Sac at 28, Guthrie at 54 and Crawford County with 549. As of noon on June 5, the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has identified 21,096 COVID-19 positive individuals with 591 coronavirus-related deaths to date.
