Limited Amount Of COVID-19 Relief Funds Being Released To Aid Carroll County Veterans And Surviving Spouses

Carroll County veterans and their surviving spouses are now eligible to apply for COVID-19 relief. Carroll County Veteran Affairs Director, Louie Grote, says that his office has a limited amount of State Allocation funds that can be redirected to aid those qualified individuals who have become unemployed or underemployed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The money can be used to cover the costs of food, rent or mortgages and/or utility bills. These funds are typically used by the Carroll County Veteran Affairs Office for training and education, but with much of that canceled over the spring and summer, the state is permitting the money to be transitioned into use as direct aid. The support funds will be dispersed on a first-come, first-served basis. Those wishing to apply must submit a copy of the veteran’s Honorable Discharge and proof of residency within Carroll County. Requests can be made by calling the Veteran Affairs Office at 712-792-1234 and then selecting option #3. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the office is open by appointment only.
