A Manning man accused of hunting coyotes within city limits late last year has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. According to Carroll County District Court records, 36-year-old Trevor Martin Matheny pled guilty to one count of carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor and was sentenced to two years of probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. In exchange for his guilty plea, a two-year prison sentence was suspended, but Matheny was ordered to pay more than $1,375 in fines, surcharges and court costs. The charge stems from an incident on Dec. 21 on South Elm Street in Manning. An affidavit from the Manning Police Department says Matheny was found to be in possession of a loaded shotgun and ammunition while wearing camouflage. According to authorities, he did not possess a valid permit or hunting license at the time of his arrest.
