Up To 100 Gallons Of Wastewater Sludge Released From Carroll Wastewater Plant Monday Night

Carroll residents are being advised to avoid the area near the community’s wastewater treatment plant after a small amount of sludge was released last (Monday) night. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), a digester pump was left on at approximately 6 p.m. and overflowed, releasing between 50 and 100 gallons into a nearby drainage ditch. City staff identified and corrected the issue by 6:15 p.m. While the area has been cleaned, residents are encouraged to keep children and pets away from the plant in the 1200 block of East Anthony Street for the next 24 to 48 hours. The city plans to adjust their alarm system to prevent the situation from occurring again.
