Glidden City Council Schedules Public Hearing For Proposed Repaving Project On W. 6th Street For July 13

The Glidden City Council has scheduled a hearing for public comment on a proposed street repaving project for their first meeting in July. Administrator, Brooke Peterson, says the bidding period opens this week for work on the one-and-a-half blocks of 6th Street on the western edge of town.

The engineering firm behind the project, Bolton & Menk, Inc. of Jefferson, estimates the cost to resurface the area in question around $191,000. Peterson says summer construction like this does not usually pose too much of a problem. However, about a dozen homes on West 6th Street, Sunset Avenue and West View Drive will be inaccessible by vehicle while work is underway. According to Peterson, the city is planning to hold a meeting with impacted residents shortly after a contractor is selected.

The council is considering connecting the southern part of West View Drive with Arizona Street through a nearby alley to provide better access to the region, but no official decision on that has been made. Peterson says work is expected to last around two months and should begin near the end of summer.

Peterson adds the affected residents have already been contacted, and the city will be providing more information to these individuals in the coming weeks.
