Karen Kennedy of Coon Rapids

Karen Lee Kennedy, age 79, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, IA.

     A private funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with Fr. Patrick Behm officiating.  Casket bearers will be Karen’s grandchildren.

     A public graveside service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Friday at Willow Township Cemetery north of Bayard.  Those in attendance at the cemetery are asked to abide by Covid-19 social distancing guidelines.

     Karen was born on January 19, 1941 in Sumner, IA, and was the daughter of Lanhard and Edelle (Robbins) Lamprecht.  She grew up in Osage, IA, where she graduated from high school in 1959.  Following high school her family moved to Coon Rapids where she worked at Headlee Ford and met her future husband Mark Kennedy.  Karen and Mark were united in marriage at Annunciation Catholic Church by Fr. Robert Dourghty on April 23, 1962.  The couple made their home on a farm five miles north of Coon Rapids where they raised their four daughters.  She worked as a CNA at Thomas Rest Haven for many years.  Karen was a member of Annunciation Parish in Coon Rapids and the church guild.  Karen and Mark moved into Coon Rapids in 1996.  Karen enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, fishing, and spending time with family.

     Karen is survived by her husband Mark Kennedy of 58 years of Coon Rapids; three daughters: Mary Kennedy of Coon Rapids, Kaye Kennedy of Omaha, and Maureen Kennedy (Ron Cox) of Ankeny; eight grandchildren: Catti Willenborg, Codi Willenborg (Danielle), Heidi Kopaska, Casi Kimmes (Jake), Kelly Kopaska Jr. (Kayla), twins Jared Kopaska (Anna) and Jacob Kopaska (Elvis Calvert), and Trevor Goetzinger; six great-grandchildren: Paxton, Simon, Forrest, Zoe, Keane, and Louis; three sisters-in-law: Joan Cooney of Omaha, Jane Kennedy of Chicago, and Kay Duncan (David) of Albany, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents Lanhard and Edelle Lamprecht; her mother and father-in-law Clarence and Cecil Kennedy; and a daughter Kristine Kopaska; and two sisters in infancy Betty Lou and Mary Louise.
