Kuemper At Coon Rapids Bayard
Coon Rapids Bayard 5
Kuemper 3
Kade Schlepp was the story as the Class 1A 5th ranked Crusaders knocked off Kuemper on Thursday. Schlepp nearly went the distance by had to be replaced in the top of the 7th with 2 outs and 1 runner on. He finished the game with 6 2/3 innings pitched, giving up just 4 hits and 3 runs, and only 1 was earned.
Kuemper had a chance to tie the game in the 7th as Luke Hicks singled against Schlepp and then Jake Hugeback was walked by Quentin Culbertson. The two moved to 2nd and 3rd on a passed ball. That brought to the plate Kyle Berg who came into the game hitting over 600 but was looking for his first hit of the night. Culbertson was able to make back to back great pitches with the count 1-1 and got Berg to go after a pitch in the low part of the zone to strike him out and end the game.
Schlepp was only dominant on the hill, he jump-started an offense that had struggled the night before in a loss to Audubon. His double in the 1st helped the Crusaders score 2 runs as Josh Ramirez and Culbertson picked up RBI singles.
Kuemper answered in the 2nd scoring an unearned run when Jake Hugeback broke towards home on a roller back to the mound. The throw to the plate was high and Kuemper was on the board. Another Knight run in the 3rd on the third Crusader error in the game tied the game at 2. Schlepp again got his team going in the bottom half. He reached on an error and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. Schlepp scored on a single by Aaron McAlister, who then scored on a Sac Fly from Culbertson. Josh Ramirez scored the final run of the inning on an RBI ground out by Preston McAlister.
Sam Poland led off the Kuemper 4th and reached on an error, he would score on a single by Kyle Feauto. Kuemper would leave Feauto stranded at 3rd and didn’t threaten again until the 7th.
Coon Rapids Bayard picked up 5 hits but benefited from 5 walks. Kuemper had 4 hits but only walked once and that was in the 7th.
Coon Rapids Bayard moved to 2-1 with a road game at Exira-EHK on Friday. Kuemper suffers their 2nd straight loss and is 1-2 as they head to Heelan on Friday.

Audubon At Underwood
Underwood 2
Audubon 1 (5 Innings) (rain)
Audubon came off an emotional win on Wednesday night, then had to regroup to play an afternoon game at Underwood. They came close to pick up another huge win but the weather cut their efforts short after the top of the 5th inning. The Wheelers had a tough break in the 4th inning. They had scored a run and nearly grabbed a 2 run lead. Derek Porsch hit a shot that was caught by a diving outfielder. The diving catch ended a threat that would have scored 2 runs if the ball would have dropped.
Underwood was able to grab a run in the bottom of the 4th. They held on by getting through the top of the 5th as the weather turned bad.
Audubon again struggled to get hits and had just 2 in the game. Marcus Olsen and Joel Klocke both singled. Olson scored the lone Wheeler run. Skyler Schultes gets credited with the loss but pitched well. He went 4 innings giving up just 2 hits and 2 runs, only 1 of those was earned. Schultes struck out 4 and walked 2.
The loss drops the Wheelers to 2-2. They head to Denison Schleswig on Saturday afternoon.

For the second night in a row, the Tiger bats heated up late carrying them to their 2nd straight victory. Carroll scored 7 of their 9 runs over the last two innings, getting 4 runs in the 6th and 3 insurance runs in the 7th. The Tigers found multiple ways to score in the 6th, Jack Troutman had an RBI on a fielder’s choice, Cade Schable was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Treyton Goins scored on a wild pitch and Nick Haberl picked up an RBI on a ground out.
Through the first 2 plus games, Carroll has been really good manufacturing runs and tends to wear down the opponent’s pitchers. Troutman added another RBI in the 7th and Tory Feldman picked up a 2-run double.
The game was tied 2-2 entering the 6th inning. Carroll picked up a pair of runs in the 3rd only to see Bondurant Farrar answer in the 4th. Nick Haberl controlled the Blue Jays most of the game allowing 6 hits in 5 1/3 innings. Slade Sibenaller came in and shut the door over the final 1 2/3 innings.
The win moves Carroll to 2-0-1 as they continue their week-long road trip at Winterset on Friday.
