George J. Crouse of Lake View, formerly of Carroll

George J. Crouse, age 81, of Lake View, IA, and formerly of Carroll, IA, passed away on    Thursday, June 18, 2020 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family.    
A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating.  Casket bearers will be Josh Crouse, Zach Monahan, Joel Daniel, Jace Pruitt, Adam Wessling, and Sam Monahan.
A public procession will leave the funeral home at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 to the Carroll City Cemetery where there will be a public graveside service.  Those in attendance at the cemetery are asked to abide by Covid-19 social distancing guidelines. 
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

George was born on February 21, 1939 in Boone, IA.  He was the son of Paul and Ruth (Smith) Crouse.  George grew up in Denison and Carroll graduating from Carroll High School in 1957.  From a very young age, George was involved in his family’s trucking business, Crouse Cartage Company.  In his younger years he drove truck, and he began working in the office after he was married and began to have children.  George was married to Dixie Earhart on May 10, 1958 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Denison.  Over the years, George oversaw most of the terminal openings within the company as head of operations.  He eventually became the President of the company until its official closing in 2000.  With truck driving being his true passion, George went to work for TCT Trucking as a driver.  He then opened Chief Transportation which became Crouse Transportation always driving truck while owning the company.  He also owned operated his truck dealership, Kenworth of Carroll and worked as a consultant for Windstar Trucking.  George never retired.  He served as president of the Carroll Chamber of Commerce for two terms.  He was on the board of American Truck Historical Society and served as its president.  He was the president and treasurer of the Iowa Motor Truck Association, a member of the Motor Iowa Association, and he served on the Iowa Bio-Diesel Board.  George was also instrumental in the Jet 100 Club raising money for children’s charities.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll.  He was a family man and loved his home on Blackhawk Lake.
George is survived by his wife Dixie of 62 years of Lake View; his children and families: Renee Crouse of Wall Lake, IA, Jodi Seufert (Joe) of Carroll, Todd Crouse (Teresa) of Lake View, and Julie Pruitt (Jeff) of Breda; 10 grandchildren: Marni Cherkas (Terry), Jessi Wessling (Adam), Sarah Bober (Chris), Josh Crouse (Kenessa), Zach Monahan (Andrea), Niki Monahan (Sam), Joel Daniel (Tammy), Megan Butler, Kiersten Seufert, and Jace Pruitt; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister Jean Watt (Monte) of Cape Coral, FL; three brothers: Larry Crouse (Rose) of Burke, SD, Ken Crouse (Shari) of Panora, IA, and Jeff Crouse of Lake View; a sister-in-law Pamela Stieren of Lodi, WI; and several nieces and nephews. 
George was preceded in death by parents Paul and Ruth Crouse; his mother and father-in-law Clair and Viola Earhart; a son David Michael Crouse in 1965; and a grandson Jimmy Butler in 1999.
