The Lake City Council voted at their meeting earlier this week to approve a $55,000 change order for the $1.5 million street and sidewalk project near the community’s downtown. Work on the first phase of construction started near the end of May and had been proceeding according to plan until crews ran into an unexpected situation. Administrator, Eric Wood, explains.
He adds such an early change order is not ideal, but they are still well within the project’s contingency fund. They are also fortunate it was discovered while the roads are already being torn out, so it should not impact travel any more than already anticipated. Wood says he would not be surprised to see similar situations occur as the project continues.
According to Wood, several other substantial projects are happening alongside the downtown street work, and he says those are progressing well.
To fund these projects, the city issued $2.75 million in bonds near the beginning of the year. Construction is expected to finish by Nov. 15 depending on weather conditions.
