Kuemper At Glidden Ralston

Kuemper 4

Glidden Ralston 2

A couple runs in the 1st inning and some key defensive stops in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th inning helped propel Kuemper to a non-conference win on Saturday morning. The loss was the first of the season for a Glidden Ralston team that had been flying high on offense that lowest offensive output in its first three games was 12 runs on Friday night. The win improved Kuemper to 2-2 overall.

Brianna Lux drove in the 1st run of the game in the 1st as she knocked in Haliey Ostrander who had singled. Kenzie Schon was intentionally walked when she came to the plate and later scored when Sophie Rohe walked giving the Knights a 2-0 lead.

Kenadee Loew extended the Knights lead to 3-0 in the top of the 4th when she drove a pitch deep over the left field fence for her 1st career varsity home run.

Glidden Ralston threatened in the 2nd inning when Morgan Koehler walked, Gretchen Wallace reached on a fielder’s choice and Macy Snyder walked. Chloe Venteicher settled in and induced a pop up and then got back to back strikeouts to end the inning. Glidden Ralston would threaten again in the 3rd inning with runners on 2nd and no outs but again Venteicher didn’t let a ball leave the infield and Glidden Ralston had stranded 7 runners through the first 3 innings.

The Wildcats finally broke through in the bottom of the 4th. Kim Daily had a 1 out single and scored when Jozey Gump doubled. Gump hit the cover off the ball several times during the game but most of them drifted foul. The gap closed to 3-2 in the 5th when Vanessa Koehler singled and scored on a Macy Snyder single.

Kuemper added the final run in the 6th when Kyndal Hilgenberg drove in Kiley Trecker who had a 2 out double. Gump would single for Glidden Ralston in the 6th but was stranded at 3rd.

Venteicher picked up the win allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits in 7 inning. Talia Schon suffered the loss going 4 innings and giving up 5 hits and 3 earned runs.

Crusaders picked up 9 hits in the game but 8 of those were singles. Alexa Culbertson had their only extra base hit with a double. They were only able to manufacture 2 runs in the game and fell to 0-5. Head Coach Darla Davis says it was a tough week as the Crusaders didn’t play bad just couldn’t seem to catch any breaks. They tended to a have a tough inning each game which cost them. A 6-run 6th inning by the Chargers blew open a tight game that was 3-2 heading into the bottom half of the 6th.

Cora McAlister, Alexa Culbertson and Alaya Betts combined to have 6 of the teams 9 hits with each of them having a pair. Lacie Davis and Cassidy Baker drove in the lone runs. Miranda Garcia and Kadey Olson scored their two runs.
