Eugene Kitt of Dedham

Eugene Kitt, 84 of Dedham, died Sunday, June 21, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm.  Lectors for the funeral mass will be Jon Kitt and Andra Kitt.  Honorary Gift Bearers will be Hannah Rowedder, Maeve Kitt, and Hattie Kitt.  Casket Bearers will be Nick Hidlebaugh, Cody Hidlebaugh, Austin Kitt, Alan Jubell, Clint Jubell, and Dennis Hidlebaugh.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dedham with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.  Those in attendance are asked to abide by COVID 19 social distancing guidelines and masks are recommended.  Those who choose to attend the funeral mass are required to wear a mask.  There will be no public visitation on Saturday at the church.

Born on December 7, 1935 in Carroll, Iowa, Eugene was the son of Herman Jr. and Gertrude (Mattes) Kitt.  He attended St. Joseph’s School in Dedham and graduated in 1954 from Carroll High School.  Eugene served with the United States Army from 1957 until 1959 and continued with the Army Reserves until 1963.  On April 26, 1969, Eugene was united in marriage to Carol Bedford at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham.  Throughout his working career he was employed with Axman Construction, Charles Underberg, Kitt’s Meat Processing and Farmland Foods in Carroll.  In retirement he still worked part time for Kitt’s.
Eugene enjoyed cards, socializing over a beer, watching sports, especially baseball and Carroll Merchant games.  In his younger years he enjoyed playing slow and fast pitch softball.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family.  Eugene was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Dedham and the Dedham American Legion.
Eugene is survived by his wife Carol Kitt; his children: Jean (Dennis) Hidlebaugh of Rippey, Jerry (Sara) Kitt of Carroll, Julie (Clint) Jubell of Grimes and Jon (Amber) Kitt of Carroll; 8 grandchildren: Cody (Jackie) Hidlebaugh, Nick Hidlebaugh, Hannah Rowedder, Andra Kitt (Drake Martens), Austin Kitt, Alan Jubell, Hattie Kitt, and Maeve Kitt; 1 great-grandson, Lane Hidlebaugh; his sister, Evelyn Bennier of Washington State; his sister-in-law, Theresa Kitt of Dedham; as well as other extended relatives and many friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Clarence and Luella Bedford; his brothers: Norbert (Velma) Kitt and Leonard “Boomer” Kitt; and his brothers-in-law, Jim Bennier and Chuck Bedford.
