Connor Richards was outstanding on the hill and the Wolves took advantage of nine Audubon errors to pick up their second win of the season. The Wolves never trailed and were only tied until the top of the 3rd when they pushed two runs in. Both teams scored an unearned run in the 1st.

Richards hadn’t been touched after Skyler Schultes singled and scored in the bottom of the 1st. He had given up 1 hit and no earned runs heading into the 6th. The Wheelers trailed 5-1 at that point and rallied to cut it to a 5-3 game heading into the 7th. Gavin Smith singled, Joel Klocke walked. Smith scored on a Sac Fly by Aiden Alt and Klocke would steal home.

The Wolves didn’t waste time answering in the 7th. Hayden McLauglin reached on an error, Ben Lingle walked, Brody Blom reached on an error, Cooper Perdew singled, Amos Rasmussen was hit by a pitch, Nolan Ramsey singled and Max Nielsen singled. The Wolves sent ten batters to the plate in the 7th and scored five times. Amos Rasmussen came in to pitch the 7th and got the Wheelers in order.

Richards finished the night going 6 innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 earned runs, struck out 7 and walked 5. He has both of the Wolves wins on the mound. Nolan Ramsey went 3-5 with a pair of RBI, Max Nielsen finished 2-5, 3 RBI, Cooper Perdew added a 1-2 night with a run scored and Amos Rasmussen scored four runs.

Audubon slips to 4-4 overall with the loss and has to look at the struggles defensively. The nine errors allowed 10 unearned runs. Jackson Jensen went 4 innings and have up 3 hits, 4 runs and 5 strikeouts. Gavin Smith pitched the last 3 innings giving up just 4 hits and 6 runs. Skyler Schultes, Gavin Smith and Braden Wessel had the Wheelers only hits.

IKM-Manning returns to action on Monday at home against Underwood. Audubon heads to Exira-EHK on Friday.

Crusaders pick up a big win over a Boyer Valley team that entered the night at 4-0. They had to hold on late as the Bulldogs rallied with four runs in the top of the 7th. The Bulldogs used three walks, a single and a double with the bases loaded to cut it to a one run game. Peyton Clipperton clinched the victory with the tying run on second by striking out the final batter he faced to end the game.

Coon Rapids Bayard fell down 1-0 in the 2nd inning but stormed back with three runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings. Jalen Rosenbeck drove in the tying run in the 3rd. CRB scored twice more in the inning on Boyer Valley errors. In the 4th inning Kade Schlepp tripled and scored on a single by Josh Ramirez. Quentin Culbertson singled and Gabe Obert doubled to drive in the final runs.

Pitching and defense were a strength for the Crusaders. Lance Clayburg had a nice game at 3rd base and Peyton Clipperton and Preston McAlister teamed up on the mound to hold the Bulldogs to 3 hits while striking out 9.

Coon Rapids Bayard takes on Bedford on Saturday. They are currently 5-2 on the season.

Carroll suffered another gut wrenching loss on Thursday as they fall to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Raccoon River Conference. The Tigers allowed all four runs over the final three innings with two of them in the 7th to send it to extra innings.

Nick Haberl was brilliant through 6 innings. He was perfect through 5 and kept the no-hitter intact through 6 innings. The Blue Jays scored on an error in the top of the 6th after they got two runners on with walks. They broke up the no hitter in the 7th with a runner on 1st, they doubled to make it a one run game and then tied the game on a pass ball. The Blue Jays took their first lead of the game in the 8th on a single followed by a double.

Carroll tried to rally in the bottom of the 8th. Cade Schable walks and steals second. Tory Feldman hits a rocket but the defense makes a leaping catch to end the game.

Carroll opened the scoring in the 2nd inning. Cade Schalbe scored on a wild pitch and Treyton Goins scored on an error. They added to the lead in the 5th Ryan Johnston drove in a run with a double.

Tigers will look to bounce back on Friday as they host Winterset.
