Bernice, the daughter of George and Theresia (Brincks) Berger was born on May 13, 1929 at Willey, Iowa. She grew up near Willey and attended St. Mary’s School.
On June 1, 1954 Bernice was united in marriage to Elmer Bluml at Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids. The couple made their home in Carroll where Bernice was a devoted homemaker and worked at Pauline’s Café and later J.C. Penney.
Bernice enjoyed volunteering, she frequently volunteered at St. Lawrence, and was an avid blood donor giving over 16 gallons of blood throughout the years. She also enjoyed flowers, especially roses, playing cards, and frequently playing the accordion. She will be remembered for her Mashed Potato Buns, and her Apple Mei Deuschen. Most of all Bernice cherished her family, and it meant the world to her to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a deep faith especially in the Holy Spirit, and those who would meet Bernice would be greeted by her and her “business card” which was a prayer to the Holy Spirit she prayed frequently.
Bernice is survived by her children: Mark (Lori) Bluml of Carroll, Mary (Rick) Lampe of Fair Grove, MO, Jeff Bluml of Fort Dodge, and Joel (Melissa) Bluml of Topeka, KS; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren with 1 more on the way; her brother: Edmond “Butch” (Lavonne) Berger of Lidderdale; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Dorothy Berger of Lohrville, Charlene Stork of Glidden, Margaret Hinners of Manning, Faye Bluml of Carroll, Sharon Bluml of Hawarden, and Don (Carol) Bluml of Dubuque; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elmer in 2013; and her siblings: Marie Riesberg, Leona Seidl, Joe Berger, Lucille Berger, Alvin Berger, Frances Meiners, and Ray Berger.
