Carroll Man Accused Of Sexually Abusing Juvenile Scheduled For Trial In September

A Carroll man charged for allegedly sexually abusing a juvenile girl has been scheduled for trial at the end of the summer. According to Carroll County District Court records, 19-year-old Michael John William Lyons, who has also reported an address in Breda, filed his written not guilty plea to one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony, on Friday, July 10. The charge stems from an investigation by the Carroll Police Department. Their investigation alleges Lyons engaged in sexual activity with the victim between April 15 and May 31 of this year. An order signed today (Monday) by a district court judge schedules his jury trial to begin Tuesday, Sept. 15 with a pretrial conference on Monday, Aug. 24. As of Monday, Lyons remains in custody at the Mills County jail for probation violations stemming from a 2018 conviction for second-degree theft. He faces up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines if found guilty of the charge.
