The Carroll County Board of Supervisors has decided they will try reopening the courthouse to the general public next week. After a lengthy discussion of their options at their Monday morning meeting, Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, told the board she would just like to see them open up full days and if there are major issues, the department heads will know about them right away. Although Chair, Rich Ruggles, says there is one department that has found a change in the way they do business to be beneficial in managing their time as well as that of their patrons.
Ruggles says this could also cut down on any social distancing issues. The board has determined they will do away with temperature checks and did agree with Stephanie Hausman that simple guidelines should be followed.
Dean Schettler says he realizes we need to reopen services, but he points out the risks are still out there, and will be coming into the courthouse.
Gene Meiners says he has mixed feelings because we are not out of the woods yet and the numbers keep going up, but he agrees there is a point in time when they have to open. The courthouse will reopen at their regularly-scheduled time on Monday morning, July 20 at 8 a.m. They will remain open until 4:30 p.m. Again, all people entering the courthouse are strongly encouraged to wear a mask and to maintain social distancing. Department heads will reserve the right to limit the number of people in any area. The board has asked the department heads to meet later in the day to discuss, evaluate and address any issues that may have arisen.
