CCSD Board Of Education Continues Planning For Start Of 2020-21 School Year At Tuesday’s Meeting

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education’s first meeting of Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 is scheduled for next week. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says this meeting is when the board takes care of their annual committee and administrative appointments.

The board will also be designating the district’s depositories for FY21. Classes begin in just over five weeks, and a lot of questions remain on what that will look like for students, teachers and families. The district turned in its required Return to Learn plan to the Iowa Department of Education on July 1. However, Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a new proclamation this (Friday) morning regarding the return of in-person education. The order directs districts to prepare for students and teachers to be in school come August, but it does allow for remote learning at the request of parents, in lieu of a snow day or when health officials deem it necessary. Berlau says Reynolds’ proclamation does not have a significant impact on their existing plans, and they will continue to work out details for the start of school at the meeting.

Other items on next week’s agenda include the first reading of four new board policies regarding employee reimbursements, worker’s compensation and public participation in board meetings and several bids from the business office for commercial washers and dryers and new tires for the district’s fleet. By the time students are back to class on Aug. 25, they will have been away from school for over 160 days.

The Tuesday, July 21 meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be livestreamed via Zoom Video Conferencing. A link to the full agenda and details on how to attend the meeting remotely can be found included below.
