The game was more even than the final score indicated as both teams finished with 5 hits and neither team had an error. The difference was Dallas Center Grimes ability to manufacture runs when Carroll walked or hit a batter. Carroll only walked once, in the 3rd inning Jack Troutman walked but the Tigers didn’t score. The Mustangs walked 5 times and were hit by a pitch once and scored 4 times.
Ryan Johnston put Carroll ahead in the 2nd inning with a leadoff home run to deep left field. Johnston welcomed Chase Stratton to the mound and took the fourth pitch he saw deep. Stratton came in to pitch the 2nd inning after Logan Smith set the Tigers down in order in the 1st. Stratton settled in after that and only allowed 3 more hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Dallas Center Grimes took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd when they scored 4 times on 2 hits, 2 walks and a hit by pitch. Alex Loew had not given up a hit until the 3rd. The big hit was a double by Colby Wigham that made it 4-1. The Mustangs added a run in the 4th and then got a 2-run home run from Jordan Sedivec in the 5th.
Carroll had runners on 1st and 2nd in the 5th with two outs but Huston Halverson came in and got the Mustangs out of trouble. Luke Woosley led off the 7th with a single but was part of a 6-4-3 double play that ended the Tigers hope of a 7th inning rally.
Ryan Johnston, Luke Woosley, Treyton Goins, Tory Feldman and Nick Haberl all had hits for Carroll.
Tigers finish the season 8-13 but broke several streaks during the season snapping losing streaks to Ballard, Boone and Kuemper and winning their first post-season game since 2015.
