Arlin Sigmon, 81, of Auburn, died at his home on Monday, July 27, 2020. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 30th at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City. A private family burial will be held.
Arlin passed away on the same family farm he was born, raised and spent his entire life on. He and his wife, Eleanor worked side by side for their 60 years of marriage, building a home and life into a family legacy for their children, Clint and Brenda.
Throughout his life, Arlin developed many interests, and sticking with his feelings about sharing his knowledge and experience with younger generations, he shared all of this with anyone who cared to learn more. Due to his love for agriculture, Arlin restored antique farm equipment, winning many awards. For 25 years he put on an antique power show/Thrashing Bee on the family farm. Thousands of people got to experience and participate in this passion.
A later interest in cooking developed into competitive cooking, joining the Chuck Wagon Association, at building an authentic chuck wagon used in cooking competitions. Arlin, along with the rest of the team; Clay, Tim and Angie, many awards were also won.
In many areas around Auburn, you could see maple trees tapped and if you were lucky, you were at the “Sugar Shack” on the farm when the sap was cooked down into Prairie Mill Maple Syrup.
Arlin was a talented craftsman, creating beautiful leather art. He met and married Eleanor Larmer while working as a rodeo clown/bullfighter in 1959. The couple returned to Iowa and settled on the family farm.
Arlin is survived by his wife Eleanor, son Clint (Michelle) and grandson Cody (Laura) and their children Elodie and Levi Keith; daughter Brenda (Barry) Baker and grandchildren Andrea Mae and her daughter Arlihn Charlotte, Lucas (Makayla) and Kyle; sisters Ardith Sigmon and Arlene (Robert) Foster; sister-in-law Marlene Sigmon; many nieces and nephews, cousins and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents J.C. and Adelia Sigmon; parents-in-law John and Junes Larmer; brother Arlo and 2 infant twin brothers.
