The Lake City Council approved a resolution at their meeting earlier this week setting Sunday, Aug. 16 as the last day of the seasonal operations for the community pool. According to Administrator, Eric Wood, this year’s season was one of the most challenging in recent memory. Officials announced at the end of May the pool would remain closed for the summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the city reversed course after getting the okay from the state, opening on June 20. Wood says there were many concerns heading into the season, but things turned out far better than he had hoped. Wood adds many of the usual summertime activities had been cancelled due to the pandemic, leaving many kids with very little to stay busy during their extended absence from school. Despite an abbreviated season, Wood says this year’s attendance has already surpassed 2019’s numbers.
He says they will be closing the pool at the end of the day on Aug. 16 for a special event with Lake City’s canine inhabitants.
Only dogs will be allowed to swim during the event and must be leashed when not in the water. For more details about the 2020 Doggie Dip, use the contact points included below.
