Lohrville Woman Tries To Speed Through Intersection To Avoid Accident

A Lohrville woman was cited for running through a stop sign and causing an accident Tuesday morning near Lanesboro. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to Velvet Avenue and 120th Street at approximately 9 a.m. to find 29-year-old Emily Elizabeth Brown had been westbound on 120th in a 2012 Ford F-150. She did not, however, stop for the posted sign at the intersection with Velvet Avenue. Seventy-four-year-old Stephen James Kavanaugh of Lake City was southbound on Velvet in a 2008 Dodge Caravan when he saw the Brown vehicle approaching the intersection. As Brown accelerated to try to avoid a collision by speeding through the intersection, Kavanaugh hit his brakes. The front of the van struck the rear passenger side of the pickup and the impact caused the truck to spin and enter the ditch. Neither driver was injured but there was an estimated $4,000 in damage to the Kavanaugh vehicle and $1,500 to the F-150. Brown was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.
