Marjorie “Marge” Stickrod of Wall Lake

Marjorie “Marge” Stickrod, age 91 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020, at
Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA. Marjorie Alice Stickrod was born on May 17, 1929, to
parents Roscoe C. and Charlotte (Clothier) Hopkins in Odebolt, IA.  She grew up in Wall Lake where she
was baptized at the United Methodist Church in 1929.  Marge attended grade school and high school in
Wall Lake.  While attending Wall Lake High School, Marge played basketball and graduated with the
class of 1947.  After graduation, Marge continued her education at Iowa State University.
On June 5, 1950, Marge was united in marriage to Jack Stickrod at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall
Lake.  This marriage was blessed with three sons: Dean, Dave and Dan.  Marge and Jack raised their
family in Wall Lake where she took care of her family as a homemaker.  She enjoyed baking, cooking and
providing lunches for Jack, the boys and neighbors on the farm.  Marge was the type of person who
could never sit still and was always serving others and her community.  She volunteered to work at the
Blood Mobile when it came to town, served at Twilight Acres Nursing Home, served for Wall Lake
Historical Society and the Andy Williams House, and was a regular for morning coffee at Doc’s Place.
Marge was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church, participating in the choir, altar guild, ladies aid
and she served lunch and baked cookies for Bible School.
Marge had many hobbies and interests. She liked to do yard work, go golfing, read, play bridge, and do
crossword and jigsaw puzzles.  She was a sports lover and liked watching the Iowa State Cyclones and
the Green Bay Packers.  Her favorite activities of all to watch  were those in which her grandchildren
were involved. She adored all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was able to make many
special memories with them.  Thanksgiving, Christmas and summer picnics were very special to her.  Her
daughters-in-law and granddaughters swear she had a secret recipe for white cake, chocolate chip
cookies and potato salad because no matter how hard they try, they can never make them like Marge
could!  Marge leaves behind a legacy of great deeds and works that will not be forgotten.  She will be
dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons: Dean (Jane) Stickrod of Ames, IA, Dave (Amy)
Stickrod of Glenwood, IA, and Dan (Barb) Stickrod of Odebolt, IA; grandchildren: Jill (Spencer) Smith of
Huxley, IA, Jeff (Lexsea) Stickrod of Bellevue, IA, Joel Stickrod of Nashville, TN, Carrie Beth Stickrod of Omaha,
