Senator Grassley Calls On Democrat Leader To Join Republicans In Approving An Unemployment Extension

U.S. Republican Senator, Chuck Grassley, took to the floor again yesterday (Wednesday), this time calling on Chuck Schumer, Democratic Senate Leader, and all other Democrats to pass an extension on federal unemployment. Grassley says Schumer objected to the short-term extension of the supplemental benefits created through the CARES Act Republicans requested days ago. Grassley says this effort to get the extension was to provide aid to the Americans who need help while the governing body worked on longer extensions and more relief. “Common sense ought to play a role. There doesn’t seem to be any downside to a temporary extension, but there apparently was a political upside for the other side blocking it,” Grassley says. “I hope we can work together and that the Democrat Leader will let his members work with the Republican colleagues on a path forward. This partisan ‘my way or the highway’ approach just doesn’t work.” He adds these objections are contrary to the unanimous approval of the CARES Act and not the way forward in caring for the American people right now.
