Fundraising Deadline For Breda Pool Repair Project Only Two Weeks Away

The City of Breda has only two weeks left to meet a substantial fundraising goal for planned repairs at the community pool and are reaching out to residents to help them reach their target. The repairs are estimated to cost approximately $550,000. According to Clerk, Nancy Janssen, the city council plans to contribute approximately $150,000 in Local Option Sales Tax (L.O.S.T.) to the project with another $100,000 in grant money from the Wellmark Foundation. However, the grant requires an equal amount in matching funds.

The Breda pool was built 53 years ago, and time has taken a toll on its infrastructure. A recent study found the steel wall panels surrounding the pool have started to corrode and voids have formed due to backfill erosion. Janssen say the work, which is scheduled to begin Aug. 17, will be extensive.

Fundraising for the project was originally scheduled to begin earlier this year, but Janssen says the onset of the pandemic pushed that campaign to the backburner.

As of Monday, Janssen says they are about three-quarters of the way to their goal. The fundraising campaign committee has scheduled one last event at the pool to help them generate the remaining funds.

Donations can be dropped off at Breda City Hall or mailed to the address included with this story on our website. Checks should be made out to the Breda Pool Fund. A special account has also been set up at Breda Savings Bank.
