Mixed signals resulted in about $6,000 of total damage to two vehicles in an accident last week. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on Main Street in Lidderdale last Tuesday at approximately 8:16 a.m. Upon arrival, they found that two vehicles were northbound at the same time. The first, a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox, was being driven by 71-year-old Lornie Loy Topp of Glidden. Topp was slowing and veering over to the right portion of the roadway to make a wide left-hand turn into a repair shop. The driver of a 2015 GMC Yukon, 26-year-old Alex John Wiederin of Carroll, believed Topp was pulling off on the right shoulder to stop, so he began passing on the left. Topp started his left turn into the spot and struck the front passenger side of the Wiederin SUV. There were no injuries reported but there was an estimated $3,000 in damages to each vehicle. Wiederin was cited for unsafe passing.
