The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) is inviting Iowans to join Heartland Emergency Medical Services for Children Coalition next month for a virtual symposium on human trafficking in the Midwest. Each session is two and a half hours long and are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 and Friday, Sept. 18. Former FBI Special Agent, Anna Brewer, will lead the first session by examining the definition of modern-day slavery and teach participants how to recognize and react to evidence of sex trafficking. Kelly Patterson, an author and trafficking survivor, leads the second seminar and will detail many common experiences for victims and her path to recovery. Individuals may choose to attend one or both of the free sessions. A link to the online registration forms can be found included below.
