The City of Lake View has filed for nearly $26,000 from the State of Iowa for COVID for reimbursement of coronavirus-related expenses. According to City Administrator, Scott Peterson, a portion of the funding set aside for states in the CARES Act that was approved earlier this year is to be funneled to city and county governments to offset at least some of the unexpected costs.
Each city can receive a maximum allocation based on their population. In Lake View’s case, that is $25,763. Peterson says the city is fortunate so far to not have racked up any large bills related to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, but that does not mean they are not eligible for the costs they did experience.
Peterson adds the reimbursement they are requesting is very near the maximum amount specified in the CARES. He says that should not be an issue, as the city does not foresee any major expenditures in the near future.
The extent of those reduced revenues is difficult to estimate and may not be made clear until the city closes out Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 next June. Peterson says it is not clear at this time how long it will take for the city to receive the money once the state has received their request.
