Sac County Sheriff’s Deputy And K9 Petey Recognized At Annual Certifications Last Week

A Sac County Sheriff’s Office deputy and his K9 partner were recognized for their outstanding performance in locating and removing illegal drugs off the streets in the first six months of 2019. Sgt. Jonathan Meyer and K9 Petey received their Detector Dog Case plaque while completing the annual United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) patrol dog certifications in Algona last week. The award stems from the seizure of a substantial amount of narcotics during a traffic stop near Odebolt on April 19, 2019. A deputy on patrol had observed a suspicious vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Law enforcement suspected criminal activity from the occupants of the vehicle and requested assistance from the county’s K9 unit. Upon arrival, K9 Petey alerted to the presence of illicit drugs inside the vehicle. A subsequent search located nearly six pounds of marijuana inside the trunk. Sgt. Meyer and K9 Petey also showcased proficiency in criminal apprehension, responding to gunfire, article searches, obedience and obstacles at the two-day certification.
