Carroll PD Is Asking For Drivers To Pay Special Attention As School Gets Underway

Kindergarten through 12th grade classes get underway for the Carroll Community School District and Kuemper Catholic School System tomorrow (Tuesday). Chief of Police, Brad Burke, says the busing dilemma arising from the COVID-19 pandemic means they are expecting a very different look to the start of the school day.

Burke says they are also expecting the normal learning curve for the first couple of weeks as kids get accustomed to where they need to be and when they need to be there. Because of this, they are asking other drivers for special consideration.

They are also anticipating more pedestrian and bicycle traffic as well.

Officers with the department will be helping out with enforcement in specific areas.

Burke adds they will be conducting a texting and driving special enforcement at the beginning of September, during the latest Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau Special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP), which runs through Labor Day. Burke says they will be partnering with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for the texting and driving portion of the initiative as they look for distracted drivers. A portion of this special effort will be focused around local schools.
