The IKM-Manning Community School District was one of the first in the region to return to in-person instruction, having resumed classes on Friday, Aug. 14. Late last week, Superintendent, Trevor Miller, sent a letter to parents and guardians in light of the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases within the area. He says the district has learned there are “multiple individuals” in the area communities and district that have tested positive and been placed in quarantine. The school nurses have been working with the region’s public health officials on contact tracing and ensuring those exposed are entering into isolation as well. Miller assures families they are closely monitoring the data and the current state guidelines will be used to determine if an adjustment to their hybrid model will be needed. He reminds everyone that as cases continue to rise, physical distancing, mask wearing and frequent hand sanitizing are necessary forms of prevention and for slowing the spread of the virus. He adds that many people are speculating the start of school is responsible for the uptick in numbers in the area. The reality, Miller says, is that the majority of cases reported last week were people exposed prior to school starting who became symptomatic in that 14-day period. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the district at 712-655-3781.
