The night didn’t start well for South Central Calhoun with a number of girls making their first varsity appearance of their careers and others starting in new roles. They would never lead and only tie the first set once at 1-1 before falling 25-15. They trailed the set by 7-9 points most of the set.
The girls settled down after the first set and played much better the rest of the night. Emma Geno had a nice match in the back row, doing a nice job on serve receive. The Titans grabbed the lead for good in set 2 at 13-12 and went on to win by 7. You could start to see the comfort level of Riley Batta and Kortney Riley at the net and Keira Hammen started making it tough at the net for the Raptor hitters.
Ridge View used a 4-1 run early in set 3 to go up 3. The Titans cut it to 1, five times but were never able to tie the set and fell down 2 sets to 1. They bounced back with a gritty performance in set 4, grabbing the lead for good at 10-9. There was 4 lead changes and 6 ties in the 4th set. Hammen picked up a number of blocks and Batta, Riley and Sally Musselman took turns setting up their hitters. South Central Calhoun went on a 5-0 run late to put the set away and send the match into the 5th set.
Ridge View never trailed in the 5th set, though Titans tied the match at 3 and were down 13-12 late but weren’t able to tie it and put the pressure on Ridge View.

The Wildcats opened the season going 1-1 in a triangular. They slipped past Collins Maxwell in 3 sets picking up tight wins in sets 1 and 3. Kim Daily found her main weapons the match dishing out 16 assists with Gretchen Wallace having 15 kills and Morgan Koehler finishing with 11 kills.
Glidden Ralston fell in 3 sets to Greene County. The first set was tight late and the Rams were able to pick up the 2 point win. Daily again teamed up with Wallace, dishing out 16 assists with Wallace finishing with 10 kills. Vanessa Koehler had a nice match defensively at the net with 4 blocks, Wallace added 3 blocks.
