Historic Rockwell City Rainbow Bridge Gets A Makeover

One of two historically registered bridges in the region is now showcased in a roadside park. Rockwell City Revitalization, Calhoun County, Calhoun County Conservation, Boy Scout Troop 94 and many others joined forces for the makeover at Rockwell City’s Rainbow Bridge, which was designed by James Marsh and constructed in 1915. The property surrounding the bridge was cleared of weeds and overgrown brush, the entrance drive was repaired and a road closed sign was replaced with a decorative rock featuring a sign with details about the bridge. Visitors are encouraged to stop and admire this one of two Calhoun County Rainbow Bridges designed by Marsh; the other is located south of Lake City. “We are extremely grateful to everyone involved in this project and in helping to ensure this bridge is not forgotten and is enjoyed by many for years to come,” says President of Rockwell City Revitalization, Joan Wagner. “Thank you to those who donated their time, sweat equity and money to see this happen, and to the family of Margaret Feld for transferring the property to Calhoun County for its preservation and care.” Calhoun County Conservation will be responsible for upkeep and care of the roadside park.
