New Opportunities And Community Of Concern Offering Free Restaurant Gift Cards To Eligible Carroll County Residents

Thanks to a partnership between the City of Carroll, New Opportunities and Community of Concern, Carroll County residents could be eligible to receive a free $25 gift card to one of the area’s many restaurants. According to Summer Parrott from the Community of Concern, the city was approved for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) which was then passed on to the organizations for distribution.

Parrott adds there are income limitations for the cards, but they are more generous than many other types of assistance, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) or Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) programs. Gift cards are limited to one per household with incomes up to $44,000 for a family of one, $56,550 for a family of three, $67,550 for a family of five and so on. Parrott says arranging card pickups is easy, even with the three-day Labor Day weekend.

Parrott can be reached after hours at 712-790-2700. New Opportunities has a similar system in place, but they are open for longer hours during the week. She encourages anybody that is unsure if they qualify or has questions about the program to contact either organization directly. There are a limited number of gift cards available, but Parrott says they plan to make them available to residents for as long as funding remains.
