The IKM-Manning Community School District will still be holding Homecoming festivities next week—with some very noticeable changes due to COVID-19. The theme for the Sept. 18 Homecoming is “Quarantine 2020” with the coronavirus impact prevalent in nearly every aspect of the planned activities. The student council put their heads together with staff to determine the safest way to have fun with the annual celebration and have decided they will limit access to the pep rally and coronation and cancel the community-wide parade and traditional Homecoming dance. The pep rally and coronation will be held outdoors, at the Forman Field football stadium beginning at 1:45 p.m. Only the high school staff and students and a limited number of guests from the Homecoming court will be allowed to attend in person and everyone MUST wear a mask or face covering and sit in designated areas. The general public cannot attend, but the events will be livestreamed for those who wish to watch. School for the day will be dismissed at 2:10 p.m. for the Irwin site and at 2:25 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in Manning. Bus routes will run as normal. The Homecoming royalty will be recognized before the game starts at 6:40 p.m. on the field. The Wolves will then take on the West Monona Spartans at 7 p.m. All spectators are expected to wear face coverings while not seated. All kindergarten through eighth grade students must sit with a parent or guardian. Everyone is asked to practice appropriate physical distancing and high school students who choose to sit together must sit in the designated student section, wear masks and social distance as expected.
