The Jefferson Police Department investigated a two-vehicle accident at approximately 3:47 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Elm and West Streets. The initial investigation determined that a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva, driven by Claudette Sherlock of Jefferson, was northbound in the inside lane of South Elm Street. She slowed as the vehicle in front of her was turning west onto West South Street. A 2006 Toyota SR5, driven by Darrell Meinecke of Jamaica was behind the Sherlock vehicle and failed to stop in time to avoid a rear-end collision. No injuries were reported but the Sherlock vehicle sustained an estimated $4,000 in rear-end damages and the Toyota an estimated $1,000 in front end damage. Meinecke was cited for following too closely.
