Authorities Believe Semi-Tractor Trailer Fire Tuesday Originated From The Rear Brakes

Around $35,000 in damage was reported from a semi-tractor trailer fire on Tuesday west of Churdan. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Scranton and Churdan Fire Departments responded to the intersection of 150th Street and D Avenue at approximately 1:33 p.m. The driver of the semi, 62-year-old Michael Nelsen of Lohrville, says he noticed a fire at the rear of the tractor and stopped, but the heat melted the aluminum trailer, spilling beans onto the roadway. The estimated damage to the tractor was about $15,000 and there was an estimated $20,000 in damage to the trailer. The source of the fire is believed to have been the tractor’s rear brakes.
