Exira Woman Airlifted After Truck Backs Over Her Legs Friday Evening

An Exira woman was airlifted for treatment of serious injuries Friday evening after a pickup truck backed over her legs. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 6:31 p.m. at a residence near the intersection of 300th Street and Thrush Avenue about seven miles east of Exira. An initial investigation revealed 47-year-old Steven Hocamp of Exira was backing up a 2007 Ford F150 on the gravel drive toward the house. Prior to traveling up the drive, Hocamp had noticed his mother, 72-year-old Marilyn Hocamp of Exira, a safe distance from the drive and proceeded toward the house. Steven did not notice Marilyn had continued walking toward the truck and knocked her down with the rear of his vehicle, running over both of her ankles with the driver’s side rear tire. She was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines by Mercy Air One for treatment. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office and Adair Fire Department assisted at the scene.
