Glidden City Council Approves $4.86 Million Bid From King Construction For Proposed Wastewater Improvements

The Glidden City Council has chosen a bid from a contractor for the construction of their new lagoon and wastewater treatment facilities. According to City Administrator, Brooke Peterson, the council held a public hearing at the meeting last week and did not receive any comments regarding the proposed plans to enter into a loan agreement to finance the project. Peterson says the council unanimously selected the low bidder following the public hearing.

When the city first began looking into wastewater improvements about five years ago, they estimated the project would cost around $3.6 million. Peterson says the next step will be for the engineering firm, Veenstra & Kimm Inc., city officials and King Constructions to identify ways to reduce the overall cost of the project to get as close as possible to the original estimate.

Now that a contractor has been selected, the city will soon have a rough timeline for when construction will take place.

City officials expect construction will begin sometime next year. When completed, the lagoon and connecting lift station will be situated southeast of town just to the east of the existing wastewater treatment facility.
