Lyle Gordon Knight, age 96, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids with Rev. Ben Kolars officiating. Military honors conducted by the Coon Rapids American Legion.
Those in attendance at the service are asked to abide by Covid – 19 social distancing guidelines and face masks are recommended.

Lyle was born on October 10, 1923 in Coon Rapids, IA, and he was the son of Harry and Dessie (Raygor) Knight. He grew up in Coon Rapids and enlisted in the United States Army when he was 18 years old. He served during WWII stationed in France, Belgium, and Germany as a member of the 508th parachute infantry regiment and participated in both the Battle of the Bulge and D Day. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Coon Rapids and finished high school. Lyle was married to Betty Knight on November 26, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. Lyle worked for his father in their construction business. Lyle later worked as the city manager of Coon Rapids before going to work at Pioneer Seeds. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids which he and his father helped build with their construction business. Lyle also served on the Coon Rapids Volunteer Fire Department for many years and he was a member of the Coon Rapids American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Lyle is survived by his two daughters: Judy Wilson (Reece) of Okoboji, IA, and Janice Bower (Jon) of Middletown, DE; two grandsons: Dr. Chad Bower (Natalie) of Las Vegas, NV, and Dr. Cory Bower (Amy) of Cedar Rapids, IA; four great-grandchildren: Dylan, Addie, Finn, and Alexa; and several nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Dessie Knight; his mother and father-in-law Roy and Matilda Hagaman; five sisters: Dorothy, Katherine, Francis, Virginia, and Josephine in infancy; and three brothers: Clair, Bill, and Earl.
