Carroll Miracle Field Receives Sizeable Grant From Wellmark Foundation

The Wellmark Foundation has announced the award of a $25,000 matching grant for the Miracle Field Project at Northeast Park in Carroll. The Miracle Field provides individuals of all physical abilities a place to participate in baseball and softball activities and to compete against other members of the league. According to Alicen Tigges, one of the project organizers, this grant brings them to a total of $275,000 raised to date for the field that is currently under construction. Tigges says the funds available prior to the $25,000 will cover the completion of the field, up to and including the installation of the special surfacing that is placed over a concrete base. Concrete work is expected to begin this week with rubber application after about a month of curing. The Wellmark Foundation grant will be used to help cover the cost of purchasing and installing the fencing.  The estimated total of the three-phase Miracle Field project is around $500,000. Phase two is expected to get underway next year with the installation of fencing and a scoreboard and construction of dugouts with the field anticipated to be opened for use in the fall of 2021. Phase three will come later and includes items surrounding the field, such as a building housing concessions and handicap-accessible restrooms as well as walkways and parking. The Miracle Field team worked with Becky Vonnahme of The Right Grants to apply for the foundation grant as fundraising continues. They are still accepting monetary and in-kind donations and always looking for volunteers to help with construction. Details on how to make a donation or to contact organizers can be found below.
