Several organizations are banding together to raise funds for some much-needed improvements and repairs to Audubon’s most well-known resident, Albert the Bull. The Audubon Chamber of Commerce, Audubon Parks and Recreation Board, Audubon County Economic Development (ACED) and Friends of Albert launched the Hauling Albert into the Future campaign this summer to return the 28-foot-tall bull to his original glory. Albert was built nearly six decades ago, and Chamber Director, Molly Armentrout, says he is beginning to show his age.
The Hauling Albert into the Future campaign is working to raise at least $50,000, which Armentrout says will provide funds for more than just the necessary repairs.
According to Armentrout, $50,000 will be enough to cover the cost of the repairs, painting and those improvements to the surrounding area while leaving enough left over to cover future repairs for years to come. The campaign got off to a great start this summer with a $10,000 donation from the 100+ Women Who Care of Audubon County. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented any large-scale fundraising efforts, but Armentrout says they are planning to host several events when the circumstances allow.
She encouraged residents interested in getting involved to reach out to her or the ACED for details on how to help with the planning. They are hoping to have enough raised to get the repairs done before winter when repeated freezing and thawing can exacerbate existing issues. They are relying on grassroots donations at this point. Donations of all sizes are welcome. Armentrout says gifts can be dropped off at the Chamber and ACED offices or at My Way Designs in Audubon.
