The Lake View City Council approved a resolution at their meeting Monday night, naming Brandon Rinnan as the Lake View Police Department’s next chief of police. Rinnan is an Urbandale native but has spent his entire law enforcement career over the past 14 years with the Aurora Police Department in Colorado. Once he learned of the opening in Lake View, he knew it was an opportunity that he and his wife, Katrisha, could not pass up.
After graduating from Urbandale High School, Rinnan earned his associate’s degree from Yavapai College in Arizona and studied criminology at the University of Northern Iowa. According to Rinnan, he has always been interested in public service and found his calling soon after becoming a police officer.
He started as a patrol officer but was quickly promoted to work within the investigative division of the Aurora department. Rinnan says this provided an opportunity to become very familiar with an array of crimes.
His first official day at the helm of the Lake View Police Department is Monday, Sept. 28. Rinnan is replacing Chief Royce Kemmann, who announced his retirement at the end of August. Rinnan says he is excited to get to work and start meeting people.
The Rinnans have two sons: 11-year-old Landon and eight-year-old Austin. In their free time, they enjoy the outdoors coaching and watching their sons’ youth sports leagues.
