The 2020 election will officially start in just over 10 days, with absentee voting opening on Monday, Oct. 5. The State Director for AARP, Brad Anderson, says the really nice thing about Iowa is that there are so many options available for all voters. And this year, while voting amidst a pandemic, there are many safe ways those 50 and over can have their voices heard and their vote counted on Nov. 3.
Anderson says there are concerns about mail-in voting on both sides of the aisle.
For those who want additional assurances, there is a way to track a ballot request and the actual ballot as well.
And while the AARP is urging those who wish to vote by mail to do it as early as they possibly can, they are also providing assurances that safety measures are in place for those who want to vote in-person Election Day.
When voting in-person, a valid ID will need to be presented. It must contain your current address. For those who are not yet registered to vote, Secretary of State, Paul Pate, is urging everyone to do that as soon as possible. If this is not a viable option, voters can register at their polling location on Election Day, and that will also require a valid ID. More information on voting can be found by contacting your local auditor’s office or through the link to the AARP’s informational page which is included below.
