The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education took action at their meeting earlier this week to strengthen their anti-discrimination provisions. Eleven policies were on Monday night’s agenda, nine of which were related to Title IX protections. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says nearly all the changes were recommended by the district’s attorney.
Schools were expected to have these policy changes in place by Aug. 14, but Berlau says they held off on bringing them up for board approval while the district worked through the educational changes caused by COVID-19. As a result, the board unanimously approved the first reading of the Title IX polices and waived their second readings. Berlau says the remaining policies were left over from the board’s August meeting, the first requiring documentation from employees concerning the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
The final policy covers how the district is handling student absences, including those in quarantine or away from school in the hybrid model, during the pandemic. Board member, Jen Munson, says she does not believe students working from home are being monitored for attendance.
The board also approved the second and final reading for both those policies. Links to each policy update in its entirety can be found included below.
