The Lake City Council has approved the first change order for the $1.5 million downtown street and sidewalk project with only a few weeks left before completion. Administrator, Eric Wood, says the $52,000 adjustment was required after workers discovered multiple conduits that the city did not know existed.
Wood adds the project has a 10 percent contingency, or $150,000, so they are still well within their budget.
Construction got underway in May and should be wrapping up before the end of October. Wood credits the unusually dry summer for the project being so far ahead of schedule.
Work on the final two curb bumpouts is occurring now with only a few other minor details left to complete before the project is finished.
