Early voting for the Nov. 3 election opened on Monday and we officially entered the four-week countdown to that date today (Tuesday). Campaigning for the contested races shift into high gear and we heard from state candidates representing the region at last week’s Carroll Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum. Those who are running unopposed for local positions were also asked to introduce themselves to voters at the forum. Current Supervisor, Gene Meiners, who is a Democrat seeking re-election to the District 3 seat, started by thanking the residents of Carroll County.
Meiners spent 36 years in Agribusiness and has served as city clerk and mayor for the community of Templeton as well as entering his 20th year of service as a supervisor this year. Meiners is running in his sixth election and says he brings many assets to the board as they look to reach goals set for the future.
Progressiveness, in all areas, is what Meiners says is needed to reach those goals.
Meiners adds he will always vote for what is best for the taxpayers of the county and not for special interests. He enjoys working on projects, including those for area roads, the new jail and the new radio communications system. He says he is also proud of the committee work that supervisors conduct that is often forgotten, such as youth detention services, the Carroll Area Development Corporation, New Opportunities and the Iowa State Association of Counties.
