What a win for the Kuemper volleyball team on Tuesday night as they rallied in both sets one and four to pick up wins. The Knights trailed took and early 3-0 lead in set one but watched Lewis Central go on a 6-0 run to take as much as a 6 point lead including at 23-17 and 24-20. Kenya Prescott then answered the call. Kuemper held off a set point and Prescott served 5 straight points to give Kuemper a 26-24 win.

Kuemper took control of set 2 midway through. The Knights had fallen behind 7-6 and got down 9-6 before scoring a point. Prescott headed to the service line again and rolled off an 11-0 service run to put Kuemper up comfortably 19-9. They went on to win 25-17 to go up 2-0.

The 3rd set had 4 ties and 4 lead changes before Lewis Central took control after going up 7-6 they extended it to 13-6. Kuemper cut it to two twice but never got any closer.

Kuemper put a scare into their fans in the 4th set as both teams showed great fight. The set had 7 ties and 3 lead changes with the last one the most important for Kuemper fans. The Knights looked in control up 24-18 and appeared to have a 25-20 win but a violation on the Knights kept the momentum with the Titans. Kuemper struggled with serve receive and the next thing Lewis Central led 25-24. A Kuemper point tied the set at 25 and again Prescott was set to serve for the Knights. She kept Lewis Central out of system on two straight serves and the Knights pulled it out 27-25 for a 3-1 win.

Prescott finished with just 3 aces but had a huge night at the service line to go with 36 digs and 8 assists. Kamryn Venner, Kenzie Schon, Sophie Badding all swung well and kept finding holes to score. Venner and Schon kept working line and cross while Badding pounded shots out of the middle and on the slide. Venner lead Kuemper with 21 kills, Schon added 19 and Badding finished with 10. Venner was also 2nd on the team with 17 digs while Schon added 112 and Avarie Pedelty had 11. Ashlyn Badding did a great job moving the ball around and finding the hot hitters with 48 assists to go with 12 digs. Freshman Frannie Glynn continues to impress and had a team high 4 blocks.

The win lifts Kuemper to 16-8 overall and 6-3 in the Hawkeye 10 conference.  The Knights are 3rd in the conference. They head to Roland Story for a quad on Saturday.

Carlisle At Carroll

Carroll worked quickly in winning in straight sets on Tuesday for their 5th straight win and 21st win of the season. The win moves Carroll to 21-10 and 6-2 in the Raccoon River Conference and a tie for 2nd place with Bondurant Farrar. Carroll won the head to head matchup with the Blue Jays and holds the tie breaker. They close out the regular season next Tuesday with a home match against ADM.

Carroll is really begun to click and play at the pace they want and rolled to easy wins in the first two sets. The Tigers were executing in every aspect of the game.

It was a big night for senior Laura Sweeney who made her 1,000 career dig and finished the match with 14 digs. The senior played back row in her first three seasons but moved to setter this year but was still able to garner enough digs this season to reach the milestone. She added 22 assists with a good number of those going to the outside with Josie Ayala finishing with 10 kills and Ella Collison with 9 kills. Carroll served it well and had six different players with aces led by Ayala with 3.

Glidden Ralston At Coon Rapids Bayard

Coon Rapids Bayard stayed in the hunt for the Rolling Valley Conference as they rallied to beat Glidden Ralston who drops into 3rd place in the conference race. The match was highly anticipated and didn’t disappoint as both teams had outstanding performances and the biggest point difference was five in set 3.

The Wildcats would take set 1 on a Gretchen Wallace kill. The Wildcats had chances to go up 2-0 on the road but Coon Rapids Bayard pulled out a 28-26 win in set 2. Both teams had set points in the 2nd set.  The Crusaders used the momentum from the win to jump up 10-4 but Glidden Ralston rallied and took a lead midway through the set. Coon Rapids Bayard recovered and was able to edge away down the stretch. Coon Rapids Bayard was able to close it out with a 25-22 win in set4 to improve to 10-2 overall and 7-1 in conference. The loss drops Glidden Ralston to 12-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Alaya Betts of Coon Rapids Bayard had a team high 15 kills and 4 aces. Alexa Culbertson added 10 kills and a team high 3 blocks. Cassidy Baker led the Crusaders in assists with 40 and digs with 24. Chloe Parkis added 17 digs while Brynn Bass had 11 and Lacie Davis finished with 10.

Gretchen Wallace led all hitters with 19 kills to go with a team high 3 blocks. Alicen Dreessen added 8 kills and 2 blocks. Kim Daily had a team high 29 assists and 6 digs. Haley Onken led the Wildcats with 10 digs and Morgan Koehler added 7. Lexi Wiederien served 3 aces.

Coon Rapids Bayard will host Odgen on Thursday while Glidden Ralston will next be in action at the conference tournament.

Paton Churdan put together their best performance of the season as they improved to 5-6 overall and 3-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The 3-0 sweep was the Rockets second win in a row and gives them a chance to move over 500 this weekend for the first time since starting the season 3-1.

The Rockets were never in trouble during the match as they continued to serve and pass well and got a big nights from Danielle Hoyle and Chloe Berns. Hoyle had a team high 22 kills to go with 12 digs and 2 aces. Berns kept finding Hoyle as the Spartans didn’t have an answer and finished with 34 assists and 10 digs. Karissa Stephenson had a team high 13 digs and Tessa Steimel finished with 11 digs. Steimel added 7 kills and Carmyn Paup finished with 6 kills. Hannah Bundt served very well and led them with 5 aces.

The Rockets head to the CAM Anita tournament on Saturday.

The Rockets struggled to keep in system on offense and never got into a rhythm as they fall in 4 sets in Rolling Valley Conference action. The loss drops Ar-We-Va to 6-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference. They were able to nab a win in set2 but dropped the 3rd set to go down 2-1 and never recovered.

Sara Schurke and Jayden Smith each had 8 kills. Schurke added a team high 13 assists while Smith had a team high 9 digs. Jamie Hausman added 8 digs and Schurke finished with 7 digs. Maggie Ragaller had a team high 3 aces.

The Rockets return to action on Saturday at the CAM Anita tournament.

IKM-Manning fell to 2-16 on the season and 0-5 in the Western Iowa Conference as they were swept at home on Tuesday. The Wolves will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Riverside.

Sierra Ferry led the Wolves with 7 kills and Neveah Boland added 6 kills. Taylor Ferneding and Amber Halbur finished with 9 and 8 assists respectively. Lauran Danner and Boland each had a team high 14 digs while Bianca Cadwell finished with 13.
