Charges have been forwarded to the juvenile court system following an investigation by the Jefferson Police Department into a vehicle pursuit on Oct. 2. The incident involving a 16-year-old male and 17-year-old female began at approximately 10:22 p.m. on that Friday night when an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle with a headlight out. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated, leading authorities on a chase to a farm site, where the two subjects left the vehicle and fled on foot. The female was apprehended at the scene, but the male ran into a corn field and was able to elude capture at that time. His identity, however, was known to officials, who have since charged him with eluding with drugs, a class D felony, and first-offense possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, a serous misdemeanor. The juvenile female has also been charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance, marijuana.
