Only suspected minor injuries resulted from a rear-end collision Wednesday on the north end of Panora. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on U.S. Highway 4 and the intersection with Chimra Road at approximately 1:15 p.m. Fifty-six-year-old Michael Harold Mobley of Panora was northbound on Highway 4 in a 2011 Nissan Xterra, but stopped, awaiting oncoming traffic to make a left-hand turn onto Chimra Road. Also northbound was a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, driven by 16-year-old Jonathan David Michaelson of Yale. Michaelson told authorities he was distracted by one of the passengers in his vehicle and did not see the stopped SUV in time to avoid hitting it. Neither Michaelson nor the other two passengers in the van, a 15-year-old male from Jamaica and a 12-year-old male from Yale, were injured. Mobley reported minor injuries but was not transported for treatment. There was an estimated $2,500 in damage to the Mobley vehicle and $700 to the Chrysler. Michaelson was cited for failure to maintain control.
